“Remember, beyond the price, it's crucial to consider the process followed by the contractor. .” - Teddy Slack

Hello everyone! Welcome to the blog post by Teddy from Simple Tank Services. Today, we'll be discussing oil tank removal proposals and the pricing involved in a typical oil tank removal. It's crucial to understand these proposals and not just focus on the big bold number at the bottom, as that may not be your final invoice amount.

In this blog post, we'll delve into how 99% of the industry quotes projects compared to how Simple Tank approaches tank removal projects. When you reach out to different contractors for estimates on removing your tank, they may ask you questions over the phone or schedule a site visit. Their processes may vary, but what matters most is the content of the estimate.

Instead of solely focusing on the bottom-line price, it's important to pay attention to the line items mentioned in the estimate. While the big bold number may range from $1,200 to $1,600 for a 550-gallon tank, understanding the line item costs is more crucial. Let's take a closer look at these line items.

  1. Permits: Consider the permit fees charged by the town, which can range from $75 to $500 in today's market. Some contractors may even charge an additional fee for obtaining the permit.

  2. Contents of the tank: Depending on what's inside your oil tank, whether it's water, oil sludge, sand, or foam, there will be associated costs for proper disposal. Most companies charge around $1 per gallon to dispose of the waste inside the tank. Additionally, the removal of sand or foam might incur additional charges, ranging from $900 to over $3,000.

Understanding these line items and the costs associated with them is essential to avoid being misled by a seemingly low bottom-line number. Don't just settle for a quote without reviewing the details.

Now, let's talk about how Simple Tank quotes its projects. Approximately 95% of our projects are quoted over the phone. When you contact our office, we ask a few qualifying questions about your project and conduct a quick Google search to assess the accessibility of your tank location. If there are no major obstacles such as fences, retaining walls, or challenging slopes, we can easily provide you with a flat rate price that includes everything.

Our flat rate price encompasses permits, the disposal of tank contents (including oil, water, and sludge), as well as the removal of sand and foam. The only line item you will find on our contract, if required, is the cost for traffic officers. This is specific to inner-city projects where working in the sidewalk requires a traffic officer to ensure pedestrian safety. We pass through the exact cost charged by the township for this service and do not add any additional fees.

Let's discuss the pricing. For an easy access job involving a 550-gallon tank, our quote is $1,400. Similarly, for a 1,000-gallon tank, the flat rate is $1,800. It's important to note that these prices are applicable to projects with easy access. If your tank is located in the backyard or in a more challenging area, additional information will be required to provide an accurate quote.

Remember, beyond the price, it's crucial to consider the process followed by the contractor. We have provided a link in this blog post to another video that explains our removal process for underground oil tanks. If the tank passes inspection, the job is complete, and you'll pay the quoted price. However, if the tank fails inspection, a separate project and process will be necessary, and you will be quoted accordingly.

If you have any further questions about contracts, removal costs, or want to discuss your underground oil tank removal project, please feel free to fill out the form below or contact our office. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM.
